Privacy Policy

GearWise ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data when you use the GearWise iOS application and this website.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the GearWise service:

• Usage data: Anonymous analytics such as feature usage, session duration, and crash reports — used solely to improve the app.
• Device information: Device model, iOS version, and app version, collected automatically for diagnostics.
• Location data: If you grant permission, approximate location may be used to provide relevant trail and weather context. Location is processed on-device and is not stored on our servers.
• User-generated content: Notes, gear lists, or trip plans you create within the app are stored locally on your device. If iCloud sync is enabled by you, Apple handles the sync under their own privacy policy.

We do not collect your name, email address, or any account credentials unless you voluntarily contact us for support.

2. In-App Purchases

GearWise offers premium features through in-app purchases and subscriptions managed entirely by Apple. We do not collect or store your payment information. All billing, receipts, and refund requests are handled by Apple in accordance with their Privacy Policy and Media Services Terms.

To request a refund for an in-app purchase, please use Apple's standard refund process at reportaproblem.apple.com.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to:

• Operate, maintain, and improve the GearWise app
• Diagnose crashes and fix bugs
• Understand which features are most useful
• Respond to support requests you initiate

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing and improving GearWise.

4. Third-Party Services

GearWise may use the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

• Apple App Store & StoreKit: In-app purchases, subscriptions, and receipt validation.
• Apple CloudKit / iCloud: Optional data sync if enabled by you on your device.
• AI inference providers: Queries you make within the app may be sent to an AI provider to generate responses. These queries do not include personally identifiable information. We take care to minimize data sent to third-party AI services.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for marketing purposes.

5. Data Retention

We retain anonymous usage analytics for up to 12 months. Any data you store locally in the app remains on your device and is deleted when you uninstall GearWise. We do not maintain user accounts or persistent personal records on our servers.

6. Children's Privacy

GearWise is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. Since we collect minimal data, there is rarely anything to retrieve or delete beyond anonymous analytics. To exercise any rights or ask questions, contact us at hello@gearwise.app.

8. Security

We apply industry-standard practices to protect the limited data we handle. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of GearWise after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
